Well, we have finally just signed all the necessary paperwork to own our little piece of the ADK’s. I wanted to post about it because we have only just started to tell our friends and family about this decision. We are already excited for improving our little piece of the woods.
What we have purchased is an 8.2 acre parcel in Black Brook Township in Clinton County, New York. It is inside the Adirondack Park, too. It is a completely wooded lot at the top of a hill near a bend in the road on Guideboard Road. We don’t even have an address yet! We are about 5 miles from the town of Ausable Forks. We hope to build a permanent camp there starting as soon as next spring, and eventually we would like to build an eco- friendly house, perhaps a small A-frame or even a strawbale house! The kids have not been there as yet, so we are excited for them to see it as soon as the snow melts. I wouldn’t be afraid to take them up there this winter, but we have done so much travelling this year, I think it is out of the budget for now.
We have many reasons for wanting to embark on this project. It will allow us to have a piece of the countryside for retreat while we continue to dwell in the city. It was a good investment at a time when stocks are volatile. It is a puzzle piece in the dream of living in the mountains someday. It is a way to recoup on the painful loss of Grandma’s Florida vacation home. It is a plan for the future. It is beautiful. It is an adventure!
It will be fun and hard work, but we are excited to take the kids on this journey that will lead to them having a place of their own someday to enjoy and cherish.
